Why Foot Care Is Important For Diabetic Patients?

If a nerve in either foot or leg is damaged, patients may experience loss of sensation and become numb in the respective area. It is common for those with diabetes to not be aware of injuries to their feet, hence it is important to have frequent foot examinations.

Foot care for people with Diabetes
Wash Your Feet in warm water everyday
Keep your feet warm and dry. Always wear shoes that fit well
Dry Your Feet well especially between the toes
Check your shoes every day for cracks, pebbles, and nails that could hurt your feet
Keep the skin soft with a moisturizing lotion but do not apply it between the toes (Wear socks after application of moisturizing)
Never Walk barefoot indoor or outdoor
Cut the nail straight across and file the edges. Don't cut nails too short, as this could lead to ingrown toenails
Don't use chemical wart removers, razor blades, corn plaster or liquid corn or callus remover. See your doctor or wound nurse
Wear clean, soft socks that fit for you
Don't use a heating pad, hot water bottle, or electric blanket on your feet
